Gramophone: Editor's Choice
This memorable recording, performed at the Caramoor Festival, features the great mezzo Lorraine Hunt Lieberson partnered by the young tenor, Joseph Kaiser, the Tamino in Kenneth Branagh's recent film of Die Zauberflüte. Solo and duo songs mix in this touching New York Festival of Song program of Spanish, and Spanish-related songs by Granados, Turina, Rodrigo, Mompou, Roussel, Ravel, Chabrier, Schumann, Wolf, Sondheim and others. This CD release coincides with Joseph Kaiser's Metropolitan Opera debut performances singing the roles of Romeo in Gounod's "Romeo and Juliet", and Tamino in Mozart's "The Magic Flute."
Reviews:
“An absolutely smashing live concert of both Spanish and Spain-inspired songs. Lorraine Hunt Lieberson is a master of mood, of nuance, absolutely inhabiting the character of each song. Neither does she totally overshadow her less famous colleague, the lovely lyric tenor Joseph Kaiser, Sondheim’s ‘Barcelona’ makes for an amusing finale, much enjoyed by the audience.” - Gramophone (Editor’s Choice)
“The Bridge CD is a live performance from the 2004 Caramoor Festival. Its star, without a doubt, is the great mezzo Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, who died less than two years later...Hunt Lieberson is utterly memorable.” - BBC Music Magazine
